Protest in London
Protest in London
News of Tamil Tigers being forced to the extent of possible surrendering have led to the concerns of Tamils residing in London. Large numbers of Tamil protestants have gathered in a demand for the UK government to step in to resolve the current situation. According to local officials in London, the protestants are seeking UK government to bring forth the implementation of ceasefire in Sri Lanka via UN council.

Though the crowds have grew larger in numbers, however, the protest has been peaceful thus far. Gordon Brown, UK prime minister, expressed concerns over such conflicts happening in the country, and had since requested for an urgent meeting with the UN council. The prime minister shall be discussing the issue with the council for an immediate ceasefire between the two conflicting parties in Sri Lanka.

On the other hand, the Sri Lankan government is against the idea of ceasefire as it might give the Tamil Tigers the chance of regrouping. With as many as 100,000 civilians trapped in the conflicting zone, more are bound to fall victims to clashes if the issue is not resolved.

Innocent people are being involved in the combat between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and the army.
Soldiers have been streaming in to track down the Tamil tigers who are at present hiding out in a unaccessible area in the jungle.
The ongoing battle has caused death and trauma all-round. The Army units have been perpetually attacked rendering serious injuries to the rebels and also acquiring wounds.
Not only that hundreds of casualties are getting hurt in this ongoing battle and many more are still arrested in the battle.
A lot of blame is being put on military for being careless in proceedings but they have less options with the enemy pouring down bullets down their heads every second.
The story has come up that the military is executing shelling at arbitrary places inducing major injuries to many civilians and a few dead as well.
But the Military version of the story is dissimilar. They enunciate that they are acting upon to protect the people and not kill them unlike what others are cursing them for. As a matter of fact he’s inquiring the press on what benefit would they incur by killing innocent people.
The Military Chief has made it clear that they are aiming the rebels only and are debarring usage of heavy machinery to avoid injuring innocent people.
The rebels have gathered together to show their force to the military as they have been targeted frequently resulting in rebels losing a lot of their comrades.
The military has an upper hand in the situation taking down number of rebels, but couldn’t evade loss to themselves.
Officials are under numerous pressures but are analyzing the situation and are integrating best solutions possible to put an end to this encounter.

Conflicts between the Sri Lankan Army and Tamil Tigers have lasted for a decade, dragging many innocent lives that include children. The UN children’s agency (Unicef) responded by quoting the increasing number of children being killed or injured in the last 10 days. It has now called on both parties to take into considerations of the safety of the children, as well as the wider civilian population.

Both parties have yet to come to a conclusion. The rebels Tamil Tigers put off the topic by saying that the 250,000 civilians in the conflict zone have chosen to stay. While, Sri Lankan government has agreed on offering a safe passage for the civilians. However, President Mahinda Rajapaksa ruled out a complete ceasefire.

The fate of the civilians lies in the decisions between both parties. When discussion is still ongoing, more civilians are expected to fall victims in the midst of further crossfire.
