16 Die in Attack on Pakistan Convoy

On Saturday, as a convoy of civilians traveled to Peshawar from Parachinar, they were attacked by a gang of rebels.

It was said that they came up from behind the convoy and took out the last two vehicles using automatic weapons.

Many more civilians were injured in the attack.

The exact number of dead is unknown at this time. It has been estimated that either 16 or 18 died. 2 of the dead were women.

All who died in the attack were Shia Muslims.

When the convoy was attacked, it was in a mostly Sunni area.

Kurram district, where the convoy was hit, has been the center of much activity by the rebels. There has been many kidnappings and robberies in the area.

SAN’A, Yemen  —  Authorities say military operations targeting Al Qaeda hideouts and a training camp in Yemen have withdrew higher to 34 suspected militants dead, surrounding four would-be suicide bombers, and led to the detain of 17 others.

Provincial protection official Saleh el-Shamsy said air-strikes pursued by a ground task targeting a training camp in Abyan province southerly of San’a slaughtered 30 suspected militants.

Separately, the Interior Ministry said operations were progressed to also Thursday in paddocks into the open San’a, slaughter four would-be suicide bombers and arresting 17 suspected militants. The suicide bombers were in the Arhab locality northeast of the capital.   Yemen is troubled by a weak central government and a growing Al Qaeda presence.

Militants hiding within their hideouts are gradually being wiped out by Pakistani army, pushing further down into the tribal region. Instead of plotting against the Pakistani army, militants are now targeting smaller groups. One of the security checkpoint was targeted, resulting in three tribal policemen being killed.

Though majority of the militants have already been subdued, a small group remains active that often attempt to ambush military personnels. The government has since urged those who had escaped to avoid militants to return back to their homes. The former has rest assured the civilians that the areas are in control, and is safe for them to return home.

Philippines are now facing a rising bomb threats from local militants who roam in the country creating much distress. Not long ago, a church was believed to be targeted by militants where many were injured and killed by a bomb blast. While, a more recent bomb blast took away another six lives in Southern Philippines. Investigation claimed that the a bomb was planted on a motorbike, which exploded near a hardware store. Aside from the dead, many were also injured in the attack.

Police department is still investigating the rational behind this attack. However, many have suspected the attack to be linked with the area militant group.

What should have been a peaceful Friday prayer had instead turned into a scene of bloodshed, with 30 people being killed in a suicide bombing. There were two different illustrations of the attack. Police officials commented that a suicide bomber had detonated the explosives which resulted in the explosion, in contrary, some witnesses said that the explosives were already planted in the mosque.

The attack took place in the northwestern region frequented with clashes between the Pakistani army and Taleban militants. With Pakistani army continues to pursue the militants, driving them out from their territories, it is expected that the latter would resolve to attacks that could make their presence felt.

In the attempt to retaliate against the Pakistani government, the Taleban militants have resolved to the use of suicide bombers. Several suicide bombings that were carried out had led to immerse casualties, involving both Pakistani troops as well as local civilians. In the recent suicide attack reported in Peshawar, northwestern region of Pakistan, a Taleban suicide bomber crashed a car loaded with explosives into a military vehicle. In the event, officials claimed that at least four soldiers have been killed.

As the investigation is still ongoing, no active party has claimed to be responsible for the attack. The most probable attacker has been thought to be the Taleban, which is relatively active in the region.

A missile attack has been launched along the northwestern region of Pakistan, where the Taleban base is situated. The party who initiated the attack is not known, however, many suspected it to be of another drone attack deployed by the US military. The exact number of casualties could not be confirmed, while the latest report put it at 3 deaths.

It has been known that US drone attacks has often sparked the uproar of local Pakistani leaders, pointing to the fact it involved the lives of many innocent civilians killed in such events. In addition, some leaders have even deemed it as a challenge to the sovereignty of Pakistan.

To date, US military officials have yet response to the speculations of possible missile attack launched by US drone.

Being in the midst of civil unrest caused by rebel militants, US army based in Iraq has seemed much attacks since the day of deployment. The recent suicide attack took place in a eastern province of Iraq, causing 26 people wounded. From investigation done thus far, the targeted area is an Iraq army base located in the eastern province. Though the blast caused structural damage, and some personnels wounded, no one has been killed in the attack.

This is one of the common act of the militants in disrupting peace and order in Iraq, however, it is definite that the situation is far more peaceful and stable as compared to few years ago. The US government is determined that local peace and stability could be achieved in near future.
