On Saturday, as a convoy of civilians traveled to Peshawar from Parachinar, they were attacked by a gang of rebels.

It was said that they came up from behind the convoy and took out the last two vehicles using automatic weapons.

Many more civilians were injured in the attack.

The exact number of dead is unknown at this time. It has been estimated that either 16 or 18 died. 2 of the dead were women.

All who died in the attack were Shia Muslims.

When the convoy was attacked, it was in a mostly Sunni area.

Kurram district, where the convoy was hit, has been the center of much activity by the rebels. There has been many kidnappings and robberies in the area.

Again this year, as every year, when the Shiite pilgrims make their way to Baghdad for the festival observing Imam Musa al-Kadhims death, many have been killed.

The assaults continue even as the Shiite have ended the festival and are returning home.

There were possibly over 17 people who died in the latest assaults and another 107 wounded.

The assaults were done with car bombs and roadside bombs. A parked car contained a bomb while two others were placed close together along the road that the pilgrims journey. They went off near a restaurant on eastern Baghdad’s Palestine Street.

The Shiite pilgrims risk attacks by the Sunni rebels every year at this time as they make their way to the festival and back home again.

Even with the security that has been placed in Baghdad, the bombings still go on.

The Kadhimiya shrine is one of the most important shrines to the Shiite. It is one of the most holiest. The shrine honors the imam, who was a Shiite saint. He died over 1200 years ago. He was one of 12 of the imams honored by the Shiites.

Violence in Mexico is to blame for at least 38 people being killed. There were 10 federal police officials killed as the group of cars they were riding in were bushwhacked in Michoacan. The federal officers were on their way back to Mexico City.

The trap is being blamed on gun for hire for a possible drug cartel.

The hired guns barricaded the road the convoy was traveling on with trucks. When the convoy of police automobiles was near a school on the outskirts of Zitacuaro, they used machine guns to shoot them.

Some of the gunmen where killed but others ran off, they took their wounded with them.

The city of Michoacan is the main center for the La Familia. The are one of Mexico’s most feared drug gangs.

Just last year they were blamed for another incident where 12 federal agents were tortured then their bodies left lying on a main road in Michoacan.

Then in a separate incident, 28 inmates died at a prison in Sinaloa. There was a battle between gangs, once again related to drugs and 28 were left dead.

Both incidents are thought to be drug related.

The prison battle between the two rival gangs was in Mazatlan which is located in the northern-western parts of Sinaloa state. There is also drug fierceness there.

The 28 inmates who died were all shot. There were also 2 prison guards injured.

They have regained control of the jail. They found and confiscated an assault rifle and two handguns.
