The fire occurred in a hotel in the northern parts of Iraq. It took 30 lives and caused injury to at least 40 other people. 14 of the dead were foreigners.

The fire was in the Soma Hotel which is located in Suleimaniya. It is thought to have been started by an electrical fault. Some of the people jumped to their death trying to get away from the hot fire.

There is no reason to believe that the fire was a terrorist act.

Mirwan Saeed was in the hotel at the time of the fire. He jumped from the roof of the hotel and suffered broken legs. He said he had no alternative but to jump. His room was filling with smoke.

Some firemen were also taken over by smoke.

Other then Iraqis, there were people from Australia, UK, Canada, Venezuela, Lebanon, South Africa and Bangladesh that perished as a result of the fire.

There were at least 4 ladies and 4 children that also died.
