Eastern Indonesia is now in the midst of panics after experiencing a series of earthquakes. Four people were killed in the disaster, while a four year-old girl who was crushed by a falling wall was among the death. At least another 37 were receiving treatments in hospitals after being injured in the quakes.

The strongest tremor was felt at the north of the city of Manokwari in West Papua province. After which a big quake and a string of aftershocks followed. At least 10 buildings were reported to have collapsed, including several hotels and the house of a government official. Authorities announced a tsunami alert soon after the quakes, but the alert was withdrawn within an hour. Officials issued immediate tsunami alerts, as they were concerned that quakes of such magnitude might trigger massive tsunami. One such case happened in western Indonesia whereby an estimated 230,000 people were killed. People were seemed running through the streets in fear of possible tsunami, described eyewitnesses. Medical aids are expected to arrive in remote regions, east of Indonesia’s capital Jakarta, in the next 24 hrs.

Earthquakes have also triggered a small tsunami in Japanese coast, but did not cause any damage.
