Philippines high alert on bomb threats

Philippines are now facing a rising bomb threats from local militants who roam in the country creating much distress. Not long ago, a church was believed to be targeted by militants where many were injured and killed by a bomb blast. While, a more recent bomb blast took away another six lives in Southern Philippines. Investigation claimed that the a bomb was planted on a motorbike, which exploded near a hardware store. Aside from the dead, many were also injured in the attack.

Police department is still investigating the rational behind this attack. However, many have suspected the attack to be linked with the area militant group.

Militants in Philippines, in specific – the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), are being accused of targeting local church in an attempt to achieve their objective. However, the militant group denied having involved in the recent church bombing. Militant spokesman claimed that their main mission is to defend its people and rights, instead of initiating attacks.

The bomb blast that happened in a local church, south of Philippines, claimed more than five lives and injured at least 26. Among the dead, two were found to be soldiers guarding the church.

Investigation is still ongoing, while the prime suspected is being thought as the militant group – MILF.

In the locale of southern Iraqi – Bathaa, a fatal bomb blast occurred in the midst of a busy market. It has been reported that a parked car was blown up, killing at least 28 people and injuring some.

Victims have been sent to a hospital in Nasiriya; among the fatalities were women and children.

The scene of bloodshed has been seeing some violent fights between Shia militia factions, and the blast came in just when US forces were expected to withdraw their troops.

The public is apprehensive about the situation, fearing an increase in assaults despite information stating a drop in the attacks in Iraq. US troops aim to pullout of Iraq by 30 June and is scheduled to seize all battle activity by September 2010. Amid distressed feedback in the community regarding possible seditions, Iraqi leaders still firmly believe that the nations’ army are able to protect the country well – without aid.

An Afghan family consisting of six people were killed in a bomb blast near a US air base in Bagram. The exact motive of the attack was unknown, while police suggested that the family could have been the target. Afghan ministry believe that the attack was initiated by the Taliban insurgents against the foreign troops stationed in Afghanistan.

From the rising trend of attacks launched by the Taliban against foreign troops, it could be seemed as an effort by the former to build up their strength against the additional US soldiers that are going to be deployed to Afghanistan.

With presidential election coming ahead, much has to be done to boost the country’s security system.

Nepalese Police suspect that the recent church attack was carried out by a small group of Hindu extremists. Naming themselves as the Nepal Defence Army, the group is fighting towards getting the restoration of Hindu’s monarchy. According to reliable source, a bomb was detonated in the church, killing two people and injuring another 12. Among the dead, one of them was a school girl.

Police has since fenced the area, while investigation is ongoing. However, police commented that there was little information about the Hindu organisation, posting greater difficulty to the investigation.

Being the capital of Iraq, Baghdad is the place where the economy runs, as well as a paradise favoured by local shoppers. Often, the place is packed with locals who are keen to spend their day, shopping and strolling along the streets. Amid the limelight that the capital enjoys, it is also an area prone to terrorists’ attacks. The attractiveness of the country’s capital has since faded much with the rising news and reports regarding bomb blasts.

Again, the place has been further tainted with yet another recent bomb blast. The bomb exploded in the middle of a crowd, resulting in high casualty. Local officials have estimated the death toll of be at least 20.

With the investigation still ongoing, no one has since claimed to be responsible for the attack.

As part of the international peacekeeping forces, Canada has deployed its troops to Afghanistan to assist in local security. Since then, the Canadian troops have faced much resistance from local militants, namely the Taleban, who are determined to drive out the foreign troops. Many Canadian soldiers who were tasked on the peacekeeping duty have since fallen victims to militants’ attacks ranging from suicide bombs to gunshots. To make matter worse, local civilians were always caught in the middle of such attacks, thereby falling victims.

In recent attacks, four Canadian soldiers lost their lives in two separate bomb blasts. This is yet another painful lost to the Canadian army, and also to the overall international peacekeeping forces. Aside from this, troops from other countries, such as US and Australia have experienced similar sacrifices.

Though the lost is painful, Canadian government is still positive against the reconstruction of the country. The former is prepared to challenge the militants in an effort to build a better country for the local Afghan people.

Situation in Pakistan has turned complicated and violent with the Islamist forces, namely the Taleban and Al-Qaeda militants, acquiring on every opportunities to strike. Based in mountainous regions, these militants acquit their operations against local security troops.

In the recent suicide bomb blast, the Islamist activists blew up a bomb at a barricade set up by police to inspect incoming vehicles from Khyber tribal agency into the city of Peshawar. Seven locals, whereby six of them were reported to be of police personnels, have been killed in the blast.

According to local officials. it is a common practice for such barricade to be set up, as Khyber tribal areas have long been operated on the far side of local Pakistani law. Khyber agency, which holds the main route- the Khyber Pass route, for military and food supplies to reach foreign forces in Afghanistan has since became a popular targeted spot by the militants.

With violence on the rise, local security measures are a far more critical issue to be considered by the Pakistani government. Tight security measures have to be enforced before more people, both police personnels or local civilians, fall victims to such attacks.
