
Families were anxiously awaiting news and hoping for good news. As the week passed, it was felt less and less that the chance of there being survivors was possible.
Tapping was heard coming from inside the mine on Friday. Hopes once again prevailed and on Monday, new rescue efforts were started a little pass 12am.
It was noted on Sunday evening that lights were swinging a little from within the mine. Another possible sign of people alive inside.
Some miners hooked their belts to the mines walls and hoisted themselves up above the rushng water when the accident first happened. They remained hanging like that for 3 days. Then they spied a mine cart floating on the water and climbed into it.
Rescue efforts went on continuously day and night as people emptied the mine of water, keeping an eye on gases and rescuing the trapped miners. There were 200 people involved in this last rescue effort.
It was a miracle when on Monday, 115 miners were rescued from the mine alive. Rescue efforts continue for another 38 possibly still inside the mine.
