    Winter Storm “Xynthia” Hit Europe Hard

    The storm, “Xynthia” raised havoc in Europe’s west coastal areas. The high winds took down trees and electrical lines. It left 55 people dead as it made it’s way out of the area.

    France was hit the hardest. It was a tropical cyclone that ripped through the coastal areas and in France leaving 45 people dead.

    The storms aftermath has been declared as a national catastrophe. Many people drowned in the heavy flooding as the waters rose unexpectedly.

    There are many people still without places to stay. They are concerned with getting these people into safe areas as the waters are still possibly rising.

    Water backed up through toilets, got as high as the house gutters leaving people stranded on roof tops. Others were helped out of the area by boats and some were flown out.

    There were about 1 million homes without electrical power on Sunday afternoon.

    The storm was also felt in Spain, Portugal, Germany, Belgium and England.
