
The ferry turned over during a storm in the north eastern part of Bangledesh.
There were about 35 people on board the ferry, Many of the passengers were school children.
The incident happened in the Sunamganj district which is about 85 miles on the northern side of Dhaka, the capital.
It is not uncommon to hear of a ferry boat accident in Bangladesh’s huge river network.
Not even a year ago there were 118 passengers that perished in two ferry boat accidents in just a weeks time.
Mr Mia, an official in Bangladesh, reported that most of the passengers in this last accident, were school kids.
There were passengers riding on the roof of the ferry that were able to swim to shore according to Mr Mia.
Rescue efforts are underway. Many locals and police officials are helping out. A lack of people who are able to dive is hurting the rescue.
