The landslide was most likely started by the heavy rainfall that has traversed through a town that is located in the north part of Turkey. The landslide took  the lives of at least 12 people.

Dozens of dwellings were taken down by the landslide in Gundogdu. It is the tea producing Black Sea state located in Rice. With the removal of the trees in the area, landslides are getting very common and dangerous. The trees are being removed in hopes of planting more crops.

On Thursday, late in the day, the rains began to fall. Many people were just ending their Muslin fast of dawn to dusk. It is the holy month of Ramadan.

Initially it was reported that 11 people had died, but then the body of an older lady was pulled from the debris. There was yet another person missing.

A Private television program, NTV reported that dozens of dwellings had fell to the ground and many cars were buried beneath the mud. There were also many roadways closed. Even the Black Sea highway that runs along the coast was closed.

A survivor, Burak Akat, reported that his family was eating at the time and heard a loud sound.

“We realized that the house was going to collapse. It did before I could say, ‘Run it’s going to collapse!’” Anatolia quoted Akat as saying. “I managed to throw myself out but my mother-in-law and my brother could not escape. They were buried in the landslide.”

There were at least 7 people who were wounded and many more people were rescued from homes where they couldn’t get out.
