On Friday, a land slide that was set off by the previous 4 days of heavy rain fall took the lives of at least 20 people. As of now, the known dead are 12 children and 8 adults. 5 of the children were just toddlers not yet 6 years of age.
The land slide occured close to Mount Kilimanjaro. Almost all the people who perished in the mudslide lived in Kilimanjaro which is a town by the same name as the mountain where the land slide happened.
Because of the heavy rainfall, U N officials had notified just last month that the eastern locality of Africa could be seeing land slides. With the land slides comes the ruins of crops and water becomes contaminated. The weather is being caused by El Nino weather.
Many of the countries in Africa have been in dire need of water for the last couple of years. They have lost much in the parched land and the floods are even worse when there is nothing but dry hard earth.
