Napnapan is a gold-mining village which is so distant that there is no police force within the radius of 40 km. The rescue groups from the nearest city brought along heavy devices to clean up the only way to the village. Officials said that 2 landslides had occurred in which the first one swept away 30 chanteys and the second one wiped out a house. Despite warning given by the authorities to abandon the heavily soaked mountainous village, the villagers neglected the warnings and reluctant to move out from the zone. The village is located within the Mount Diwata, which is approximately 930 km southeast from Manila. The village has around 40,000 residents which mainly consist of minersworkers and families.
