High tides coupled with huge waves had brought about a flood across northern provinces and coastal areas in Papua New Guinea. Affected areas include several islands, with the worst being St Mathias Group of islands, including the island of Mussau. New Ireland, in the northeast, has also been hit drastically. Aside of islands belonging to Papua New Guinea, other islands that were affected include Marshall Islands which was experiencing tide of over 4 feet (1.2m).
Due to the current flood, over hundreds of homes and businesses have been affected. One thousand five hundreds were forced to abandon their homes in search of safer grounds to evade the floor. Authorities are expecting high tides and waves to continue swamping, however, they have forecasted that flooding should not yet be a concern to the west region.
