
There were as many as 500 new fires found over a 24 hour time period. Most were put out.
People have lost their homes in 14 different areas of Russia. The areas that have been hit the hardest are Nizhny Novgorod, Voronezh and Ryazan.
Of the 40 people that have perished, 19 of the people were in Niahny Novgorod according to the health minister.
A state of emergency has been declared in an effort to keep the public out of the areas where the fires are.
Moscow is said to be once more covered with smoke from the fires.
The drought has been a main factor in the fires. Temperatures have gone higher then ever in the past. Wheat prices are being driven higher by the drought affecting the harvest.
It is possible that strong winds could be in the forecast which would cause the fires to burn even stronger by fanning the flames.
There are thousands of homeless people due to their homes being burnt down.
A quarter of a million people have been brought in to help extinguish the fires.
In Moscow, the doctors are advising the elderly and young children to wear gauze masks over their faces when out of doors.
