The market place was booming with citizens in the constricted back street alley ways and was jampacked with stands set up by vendors. There were as many as 90 people, mostly female adults who perished in the blast. Another 160 citizens were injured. It could possibly be the worst car bombing the metropolis has ever experienced.
There was no statement claiming responsibility for the explosion at the time. It is believed to be the acts of activists who disagree with the government and want to make people insecure with it.
Everyone who perished in the blast was a citizen. They seem to be targeting the citizens. The bodies of the victims were burnt and many were not identifiable. They were mostly women and children. There had been threats made to the group of shopkeepers telling them not to allow adult females to shop in the market.
Hours after the bomb went off, people were still pulling bodies from the debris and helping survivors.
