Nocere – Earth Disasters

Australia is in the midst of a fire disaster, whereby more and more lives have been claimed. To date, police recorded a total death toll to be 208, and they are expecting the figure to be stagnant. The worst hit region, one of the towns in southeastern Victoria state, bodies have been recovered in Flowerdale and Marysville.

Much need to be done to rebuild the 1,800 homes that were destroyed in the fires. Currently, 7,500 are left homeless and are living in temporary shelters or staying with relatives.

Battling of fires and rebuilding works are carried out simultaneously. Rebuilding of destroyed properties might not begin in the next few months, however, survivors have requested for work boots and shovels for clearing off rubble and sift.

The estimated cost of damage has been put at A$500m.
