When thousands have escaped, two persons who endeavored to travel out the firestorm in a backyard warm tub were burned down. The two in Big Tujunga Canyon, on the southwestern for demonstration of the blaze, “totally underestimated the fire” and the warm tub supplied “no defence whatsoever,” Sheriff’s representative Steve Whitmore said Sunday.
Whitmore recounted their status as “critical” but blaze agents said one of the two was covered and issued and the other stayed hospitalized in steady condition. A third individual was burned Saturday in an evacuation locality along Highway 2 beside Mount Wilson, agents said. Details of that wound were not directly known.
In the state’s seaboard midsection, all evacuation instructions were hoisted Sunday after a 10-square-mile blaze burned beside the Monterey County village of Soledad. The blaze, 80 per hundred comprised, was begun by farming fireworks utilized to shock animals away from crops. The blaze decimated one home.
