
It occurred right before daybreak in the township of Taiz.
There are conflicting stories as to what was stored in the basement. Some say there were weapons stored there and others say dynamite. The Defense Ministry of Yemen has reported that there were fireworks being kept in the basement of the building. What ever was stored in that basement made the blast a lot worse.
The blast was so big that it resulted in a building next to it that was six stories high caving in also. The a third building was also damaged.
The north and south regions of Yemen united back in 1990 after the civil war. The country of Yemen is the poorest known Arab country.
Over the past 2 years, the country has once again grown apart. There is a secessionist movement evolving in the south. They are trying to get the country to divide again into two territories.
Al-Qaeda had a small branch set up as a home site in Yemen.
In Sanaa, a peace deal was signed with a third insurgent group. The group is located in the northern regions of Yemen. They are referred to as the Houthis.
The government of Yemen has commenced busting demonstrations and charged the protesters over the last week.
On Monday, two policemen were shot down in battles with a man that they think was a secessionist bargainer of weapons in the town of Zinjibar.
