San Jose has since been placed under a state of emergency by the government, inclusive of its surrounding areas such as Cartago, Alajuela and Heredia. The government is also actively seeking for private helicopters to facilitate the movements of search teams in their operations. In one such rescue mission, helicopters assisted search teams in reaching hundreds of tourists trapped in two mountains that were without electricity due to the landslide.
The quakes have damaged roads and many other properties, and the government has scheduled to visit the affected areas.
