In the recent suicide bomb blast, the Islamist activists blew up a bomb at a barricade set up by police to inspect incoming vehicles from Khyber tribal agency into the city of Peshawar. Seven locals, whereby six of them were reported to be of police personnels, have been killed in the blast.
According to local officials. it is a common practice for such barricade to be set up, as Khyber tribal areas have long been operated on the far side of local Pakistani law. Khyber agency, which holds the main route- the Khyber Pass route, for military and food supplies to reach foreign forces in Afghanistan has since became a popular targeted spot by the militants.
With violence on the rise, local security measures are a far more critical issue to be considered by the Pakistani government. Tight security measures have to be enforced before more people, both police personnels or local civilians, fall victims to such attacks.
