Danish soldiers
Since 2002, about 700 soldiers have been deployed to Afghanistan. In a recent mission, three Danish soldiers were killed and one wounded while travelling in a supply convoy near the town of Gereshk, southern Helmand province. According to military officials, the troop’s vehicle stepped onto a bomb or mine planted along the roadside that triggered a blast. This was in fact the single biggest loss, commented Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
To date, the total death toll of Danish soldiers in Afghan mission has skyrocketed to 22. Missions in Afghanistan have claimed lives of many, especially in conflict grounds of southeastern region. For instance, a Netherlands soldier was killed in Uruzgan province, south of Afghanistan, during an encounter with the Taleban. Another 18 Dutch soldiers were also killed in a separate mission.
