Officials have found the remains of 27 people on a farm in Guatemala. Most of the bodies heads had been removed. There were two bodies of women and 25 bodies of men amongst the dead. They were found on a farm located in the northern parts of the region of Peten. Peten lies in the most northern part of Guatemala.
A spokes person for the army, Col. Rony Urizar, told of the conditions and where the bodies were found on Sunday. He would not say what the motive could be, but did not say that they were not killed in an act related to drug trafficking. So this leaves it as a possible motive.
There has been a growth of drug violence in Guatemala. There have been battles between officials and followers of the Zetas drug cartel according to the Interior Minister of Guatemala Carlos Menocal.
This past December, the government announced a state take over and sent hundreds of troops to Alta Verapaz. It is in Alta Verapaz that the Mexican drug gang is overpowering the towns and making threats towards people living in the town. The town of Alta Verapaz is located on the south side of Peten.
