The police went to the house and placed themselves all around it in order to shut off escape of any people from within the house. Armed and ready to help out the police were possibly 100 soldiers and marines.
From inside what is thought to have been a safe house for the gang, gun fire erupted and they started shooting at the authorities. The shooting continued for 6 long hours. Once the gun fire started from within the home, the men outside had no choice but to shoot back to protect themselves.
Up till now, Xalapa had not seen this kind of battles in its city. Not like some other cities in Mexico.
Xalapa had only counted 12 people that had been murdered between the years 2007 and 2010. Now they have lost 14 in one night.
There were 12 of the people from inside the home killed in the battle. The other 2 were soldiers.
Inside the home they found guns, grenades, bullet proof vest, and bullets.
Over 34,000 people have died in Mexico over the last 4 years due to drug violence.
