The assault included automatic arms and large weapons. It began at about 2 in the morning and was aimed at areas commanded by the African Union Mission for Somalia and government military personnel.
A speaker for the militants reported that they “inflicted heavy losses on AMISOM and government forces.”
The Somali officials played the attack down saying it was “small and careless.”
