Devotees, with their faces smeared with vermilion, ululate as they worship an idol of Hindu goddess Durga on the last day of Durga Puja festival in Chandigarh
It was Saturday night that during the festival, a deadly stampede broke out. The festival is one of the most observed festivals that the Hindu’s celebrate.
There were possibly more then 10 people that lost their lives in the stampede.
Over 45,000 people were attending the temple. They were praying and sacrificing goats at the time the stampede happened.
According to an official, during one of the sacrifices, part of a goats body fell onto some of the people. This causes a fright that started the stampede.
At this time, 10 people are confirmed to have died in the stampede. There are another 4 that are in serious condition.

It is very sad to have lost lives in such a way. People were there to celebrate, but such a fright of this sort, can cause people to act without thinking.
