Influx of water from the Red River has forced residents to evacuate. According to officials, the rising water level has reached to an extent greater than that of its previous highest record in the century. To make matter worse, the water level is expected to rise, adding further stress to the current dykes. The authorities are also concerned about the capabilities of the dykes in withstanding such pressure.

The US government has since deployed a total of 1700 guards to station alongside the dykes. These guards will report directly should any dyke appears to have cracks or signs of collapse. Additional dykes will be constructed to reinforce existing dykes that are found to have cracks.

As water level continue to rise, more manpower and resources are expected to be poured in to aid in the recovery work.
