    10 Die in Nursing Home Fire in S. Korea

    The fire swept its way through a nursing home for the aged and took 10 lives. There were 17 other people wounded from the fire.

    It was a 2 story home located in the southeastern city of Pohang. The fire started right before sunrise.

    All who died were women. Their ages were in the 70′s and 80′s range. Most could not breathe due to all the smoke and could only move with assistance. The smoke over took them and they died.

    It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control by 200 fire personnel.

    People wounded in the fire were transported to area hospitals.

    The fire is being investigated and it is possible that it could have been caused by an electical fault.

    The president, Lee-Myung-Bak was very saddened by the tragedy.

    Fire in El Salvador Juvenile Center Kills at Least 16

    16 or more died and another 22 were wounded in Wednesdays fire at the juvenile detention center located in El Salvador.

    The reason for the fire is yet to be determined but it is possible that a short circuit in the electric was the cause.

    It happened at the center located  in Ilobasco which is in central El Salvador. The city of Ilobasco is close to 30 miles on the northeastern side of San Salvador the capital.

    It was reported in the El Diario de Hoy newspaper that some of the wounded had burns covering 70 percent of their torsos.

    A hospital, emergency room was busy treating 10 of the wounded.

    Shopping Mall fire in China Takes 19 Lives

    On Friday, a fire in a 5 story shopping mall in China took 19 lives.

    It took firefighters 10 hours to put out the blaze that was mainly contained to the 4th floor where there was a furniture store.

    On the 5th floor, a gymnasium was also damaged.

    There were 27 people injured in the fire and 24 were still in the hospital on Saturday. None of the peoples wounds were serious.

    The mall is located in the northeastern China city, Jilin City.

    The Malls general manager has been held for questioning.

    There are 64 stores that were open in the mall when the fire started on Friday. It started at about 9:15am ET.

    All On Board Plane Crash in Cuba Die

    On Thursday, as the AeroCaribbean plane was traveling over the mountain areas of central Cuba, they sent out a call for help and then crashed.

    All 68 people on the plane died. No one survived to tell what may have gone wrong. There were 61 passengers and 7 members of the crew that perished in the crash.

    A government website listed that 40 Cubans and 28 people from 10 other nations were on the plane.

    People who were at the crash site described it as a ball of fire.

    The crash location is close to the town of Guasimai in Sancti Spiritus state. It was in a rural area that emergency personnel had to use bulldozers to clear a path to get to the site.

    The AeroCaribbean was in flight from Santiago de Cuba to Havana. It crashed at 6:42pm ET.

    Before crashing, the pilot did make an emergency call and then all contact with the air controllers was lost.

    20 Police officers Injured During Italy Protests

    A group of people in southern Italy are complaining about the proposal of a dump being started in the area. There are many angry people complaining about all of this.

    The police were injured in the town of  Terzigno which is near Naples. It happened on Thursday night.

    People who live in the area do not want the odor which would come from a dump being close by. They are already smelling another one a short distance away.

    The people who are rebelling against the dump being opened threw stones, fireworks and Molotov Cocktails while the police fought back with tear gas to bring the protest under control

    There is a discussion going on now with Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi as to how to take care of the situation with federal and local officials.

    18 Die in India During Protest

    On Monday, Sept 13th, there was protest that spanned a wide area. During the protest, 18 people were killed and another 80 injured. Some were severely injured.

    The protesters ignored a curfew to show a protest towards India and against a minister in Florida who had planned on burning the Quran. The burning was canceled.

    The angry protesters set fire to 2 police cars, two different Christian missionary schools and a great deal of official government buildings. The protesters were majority young people.

    The deaths on Monday were the most in any one day tally in a mostly Muslim Kashmir Valley since June 11th. The over all deaths have totaled 89 with Mondays incident.

    Many others were injured during the assault and had to be treated in the Kashmir hospitals. The hospitals have seen an increase in need of medical assistance through all of this unrest.

    Stones have been thrown at the Indian Security forces by the protesters in many of the townships throughout Kashmir. There have been assaults from Tangmarg to the Budgan area and south to Anantnag.

    The local government is asking people to settle down and will not let the Iranian Press TV channel broadcast. They are the ones who let it be know about the planned burning of the Quran.

    “Quit Kashmir” is a campaign that was started by separatist groups. The demonstrators are a part of this campaign. They are protesting against India ruling in Kashmir.

    Kashmir is majorly Muslim. It is said to be both a part of Pakistan and India. India has sent thousands of troops into Kashmir. They are suppose to stop what the Indian leaders think was an insurgency that is backed by the Pakistan’s. This was suppose to have started back in the late part of the 1980′s.

    India has stated that the insurgency has taken over 43,000 lives in Kashmir. The Insurgency is no longer a strong force but India has kept troops there.

    Deadly Gas Explosion in San Bruno California

    An explosion on Sept 9th in San Bruno California killed 4 people and has resulted in 37 dwellings being damaged.

    The fire is at this point under control by firefighters. It is a huge fire that was fueled by a gas line.

    The gas line was ruptured somehow and shot fireballs up into the sky. They went as far as 80 feet high in the residential area that is located close to the San Francisco airport.

    Some are describing the area as looking like a moonscape.

    Parched dwellings and the burnt empty shells of cars are found on the streets of the neighborhood.

    Fire fighters put out many hot spots where fires would just pop up, but are now saying the fire is under control.

    The explosion was described to be like a bomb going off.

    There are at this time 4 deaths being reported and another 52 people hurt. Three of the ones injured were patients that had third degree burns and had to be taken to the hospital.

    They did expect there to be many more deaths, but it seems like everyone that lives there or was in the area has been found.

    The gas line is safe now. Pacific Gas and Electric Co president, Chris Johns reported on Friday that there is no more gas being ran through the line.

    The explosion is under investigation.

    9 Perish in Retirement Home Fire in Russia

    There were 480 people rescued from the burning home in the early hours on Monday. 9 people didn’t make it out.

    A retirement home on the northwest side of Moscow caught fire Monday morning. It was started by a person who lived there trying to kill himself.

    A man took gasoline and doused himself with it. Then he set himself on fire. He was 86 years of age and a World War 2 veteran.

    The man, Nikolai Dudin, did die from his injuries. There were 8 others who died besides him. The others died of smoke inhalation.

    The gas container was later found in the mans room. The fire has now been listed as arson.
