Recent wildfires across several parts of Los Angeles, southern California, are burning through dry forests, gradually hitting suburban areas. In the event of evacuation passed down by the authority, 50,000 were made homeless. Of the 800 homes that were either burnt or abandoned, some were reported to be multi-million dollars mansions.
Fire officials are trying their best to contain the blaze, with more than 1,200 fire fighters working hard to minimize the spread. However, it was reported that the fire has already scorned 22,000 acres (8,900 hectares) of land and are soon taking up another 10,000 acres (4,000 hectares). Further attempts to contain the fire faced difficulties, with Fierce Santa Ana winds fanning the blazes at up to 80 mph (130 km/h).
Though wildfires are rather common in southern California, many officials have commented that this is one of the worst in decades. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has since declared states of emergency in four counties: Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.
