    A Suicide Bombing in Pakistan Killing 9 People

    It happened on Friday, the second day of Muhharam. Muhharam is one of the most sacred days that the Islamics celebrate. No violence or fighting is permitted during this holy time.

    The bomb was in a car. It was set off at the front gate of the Al-Zuhra hospital. It is also a maternity Center in Pass Kalay. Pass Kalay is a town located in the area of Hangu. The hospital and the mosque help out the Shia patients and worshippers.

    The explosion caused some impairment to the mosque, along with two homes and two vehicles.

    There were 2 or more children that perished in the blast.

    The territory of Hangu is located next to Pakistan’s tribal area. It is a section of the area that is troubled by violence between the Sunnis and the Shias.

    29 New Zealand Miners Assumed Dead

    The 29 miners have been trapped in the mine since last Friday. Now all are assumed to be dead.

    There was a second explosion on Wednesday. It was a huge explosion and it is feared that no one could possibly be alive after the latest blast at the Pike River mine located on South Island.

    According to Police Supt Gary Knowles there is no longer any hope for survivors.

    The Prime Minister John Key has labeled this as the deadliest mine accident in 96 years and is a “national tragedy.”

    There was never any contact made with the 29 miners trapped. There were 24 miners from New Zealand, 2 were Australians, 2 British and one from South Africa.

    The two Britons were both from Scotland originally. They were Peter Rodger who was 40 years of age and Malcolm Campbell who was only 25 years old.

    There are a lot of British citizens who have moved to New Zealand and it has become their home.

    Peter Whittall the head administrator of the mine has said that they will do all that is possible to bring out the bodies of all the trapped miners. The men are between 17 and 62 years of age.

    Their families are grieving after hearing the latest news. Some are still holding onto pieces of hope that there are some survivors. Many are upset that rescue operations did not start immediately after last Fridays explosion. They feel the time to act was then, not wait and now this has happened.

    At this time, all that can be done is to try and comfort the loved ones.

    All On Board Plane Crash in Cuba Die

    On Thursday, as the AeroCaribbean plane was traveling over the mountain areas of central Cuba, they sent out a call for help and then crashed.

    All 68 people on the plane died. No one survived to tell what may have gone wrong. There were 61 passengers and 7 members of the crew that perished in the crash.

    A government website listed that 40 Cubans and 28 people from 10 other nations were on the plane.

    People who were at the crash site described it as a ball of fire.

    The crash location is close to the town of Guasimai in Sancti Spiritus state. It was in a rural area that emergency personnel had to use bulldozers to clear a path to get to the site.

    The AeroCaribbean was in flight from Santiago de Cuba to Havana. It crashed at 6:42pm ET.

    Before crashing, the pilot did make an emergency call and then all contact with the air controllers was lost.

    A Standoff in Baghadad End With 37 Dead

    On Sunday, while people were gathering for worship, gunmen entered the Catholic church and held the worshipers hostage.

    It is suspected that the gunmen are involved with al Qaeda.

    The standoff lasted hours and ended with 37 people being killed. Some were hostages, kidnappers and security personnel.

    There was possibly 7 or moreĀ  hostages that died and another 57 hostages were injured.

    Iraqi security forces forced their way into the Catholic church to end the hours long stand off.

    There were 8 of the kidnappers arrested.

    “All the marks point out that this incident carries the fingerprints of al Qaeda,” Iraqi Defense Minister Abdul Qader Obeidi said on state television Sunday.

    Hostages were apparently killed or injured when the suspects set off bombs within the church.

    The Islamic State of Iraq has admitted that they are responsible for the hostage situation. They have made affirmations of it on a radical Islamic website.

    A spokesperson for the American military stated that as many of 10 of the hostages were killed and there were 20 to 30 wounded during the standoff. There were 7 Iraqi security personnel that died and 5 to 7 possible freedom fighters killed.

    According to survivors, the service was about to start when the men with guns entered the church. There were about 50 people in the church at the time and a priest guided them into a back room.

    According to a US spokesperson for the military, there were possibly 120 people that were taken hostage.

    On Saturday, as 276 workers were in the mine, there was a gas explosion. Possibly more then 21 workers died and 16 are still trapped within the mine. There were 239 workers that managed to get out.

    At this time, there have been 20 bodies pulled from the mine. The miners who are still trapped whereabouts is known but to reach them, the rescue team has to clear coal dust from the shaft.

    This is the same mine that had and explosion in August of 2008 which took the lives of 23 miners.

    During prayers, 20 people were killed when an explosions hit the mosque. The provincial governor lost his life in the explosion along with 19 others.

    The anti-insurgent provincial governor had made it through attempts on his life by the Taliban. This time he wasn’t so lucky.

    Mohammad Omar, the provincial governor of Kunduz and just lately talked with a CNN interviewer. He had mentioned how there was a threat of insurgents.

    In the blast there were also 35 other people injured. The majority of the people who were injured or killed in the blast had been saying prayers.

    Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Zamarai Bashari stated, ” It is a terrible incident.”

    The police are in the process of determining who is responsible and getting more information.

    The mosque is covered with blood and the roof has been destroyed.

    The mosque is located in the Takhar province.

    9 Children Die in Explosions in Kandahar

    Violence continues in Kandahar
    There were 9 children and one adult casualty in the bombings that hit the area of homes close by the city of Kandahar on Tuesday.

    Another 25 people were wounded in a sequence of explosions that were set off by makeshift bombs at about 7:30pm. It happened on the west side of the city which is named Panjwai Durai.

    The wounded included 4 police officers and children.

    The area that was targeted first was occupied by children and other civilians. Of the children who died in the blast, their ages were 10 to 14 years old.

    The act follows the assassination of Kandahar cities mayor, Noor Ahmad Nazari. He was killed Monday while returning home after working for the day.

    The city of Kandahar and the province it is in of the same name are located in the southern parts of Afghanistan. There has been a lot of violence there in the past few years

    12 Die in Bombing During Iranian Military Parade

    There were 12 people that died and another 35 injured in an explosion during a military parade in the northwestern part of Iran. Four of the wounded are in critical condition.

    Most of the dead in the city of Mahabad were women and children. There were no service members killed.

    At this time, a provincial governor is blaming “counter-revolutionary groups” for the assault but no one has officially claimed responsibility.

    Rebels are very active in the area which is also home to a large Kurdish population.

    The explosion happened at around 1020 Iranian time.

    The explosive had been placed on a tree where there were many people near by.

    There were two senior military commanders of Mahabad who lost their wives in the explosion.

    The parade was marking 30 years since the war between Iran and Iraq started. The was lasted from 1980 to 1988. It was one of many parades being held across the country.

    Over a million people died in that war.
