In Cameroon, over 100 people have perished from cholera since this past June.

In June, a warning was announced about a possible cholera outbreak. Then came the news of people dieing in the Far North area located in the northern parts of Cameroon.

At this time, there have been known to be over 600 people who have contacted cholera. Cholera causes severe diarrhea which causes people to dehydrate. If you are dehydrating and cannot get proper medical care, you can die from it within hours.

Cholera is a disease that is found in infected drinking water. People living in the Far North region, do not have the access to potable water for safer drinking and cooking with.

It is possible that all the flooding in the area has led to the spread of the disease.

    Zimbabwe Measles Epedemic
We are getting use to hearing of suicide bombings and war taking the lives of people, never agreeing with it, but accepting it.

Hearing that approximately 22 people have passed away due to the fact they never got a shot to prevent them from getting measles, is not acceptable.

The people who have perished are mostly young children under the age of 5.

They had not received a shot to prevent the disease. Their parents never got them to the clinic to get the shot.

There have been over 340 possible cases of measles in just Harare this year.  People are not getting their children vaccinated and they could have.

Measles is a disease that can be prevented with the shot.

The fact children and adults are dieing of measles is very unacceptable.

    Drought in California
    Drought in California
Authorities of California are concerned with the shape of the state concerning the drought.

Californian states have been experiencing really low rainfall in the past three years, which ensued in low water reserves.

Now the Government has been impelled to send a notice to all the citizens to cut down their water usage by 20% in order to survive long.
If the regulation is not being obeyed by the people it might bring risk to whole California and Government wouldn’t be left with an alternative other than to impel the citizens to use 20% less by reducing their water supplies.

Officials are taking quick measures to fix the problem but are not able to find answers.
Due to dry and cold climate the reservoirs are dry. This is the worst situation California has been in since seventeen years.

With water scarcity farmers are facing great problems in growing the crop.
Officials are guessing that the water scarcity might cause people their jobs as well, as there are no jobs to be done in neither reservoirs nor fields and many more water required places.

The ‘worst case scenario’ that was predicted by health experts has now came to realism. World Health Organisation (WHO) revealed a total of 60,401 people in Zimbabwe are currently infected by cholera. To make matter more drastic, the death toll stands at 3,161.

The collapse of Zimbabwe’s water, sanitation and health systems has been deemed as the cause of such extraordinary health crisis. Many hospitals are closed down and water supply in towns is not sufficient. Broken sewers and uncollected waste could be seen lying around. There are rising concerns by aid workers over rainy season, which could lead to even more infections as water sources become contaminated.

The UN agency has stressed the need for international community to interfere in Zimbabwe’s uncontrollable cholera epidemic.

Cholera epidemic stretched to rural areas

    Posted by james87 On January - 23 - 2009

    cholera
    cholera
Following a massive swept of cholera across Zimbabwe, the epidemic is now moving from urban areas to the more remote areas in the country. The UN and many other medical charities have contributed in bringing down cases of cholera in urban areas such as Harare. However, things are getting out of hand with epidemic shifting to rural regions.

The UN revealed 2,755 people have died, which accounts for nearly 20% rise in death in a week. Aid workers warned of possible increase in infections, as water sources become contaminated during the rainy season.

The traditions of locals in burying the deaths have much contributed to the spread as well. This occurs when the body of the dead is brought back to the village of origin for funeral; however, prior disinfection of the body is not done. People would then touch the body without realising the possibility of being infected.

To contain the spread of cholera was tedious in urban areas, but to contain it in rural areas could even be harder. The lack of knowledge of locals and the impaired transport system could result in even more dying. A greater demand for medical aids might be necessary to relieve such situation.
