Taiwan Typhoon Sets Off Dilatory Quakes

According to scientists, in a temblor prone area in Taiwan, fluctuations in pressure by typhoons has dislodged the shift. After some observation, Alan Linde (Carnegie Institution for Science, US) and her team of scientists believe that because the discharge of energy is moderate, it is released off gradually, thus producing less harm then a full impact tremor would.

This is perhaps why the area suffers less major quakes as compared to other zones. They have implemented the use of strainmeters that can ascertain minute changes of shifts, and had so far detected 20 “slow earthquakes” – 11 of which synchronised with typhoons.

Researchers are surprised at how this part of the world seems to be less inclined to experience any large quakes – as compared to Japan, despite recurring tension.

Some Disaster like Hurricane Nargis Can't Be Prevented
Some Disaster like Hurricane Nargis Can't Be Prevented
According to a latest UN report the risk of disaster worldwide is growing. Population of the world was affected due to changes of global climate, degradation of environment and disorder of the urban development. The report discourage that many lives are now in risk because the proper judgment is seldom carried out especially in developing countries. UN states that money that spent on risk reduction is the best way to decrease the number of death and harms. Although there are some natural disaster that cannot prevent such as Asian Tsunami and earthquake in china but there are still ways to reduce our risk to it.

Researches need to carry out because they still lack of knowledge about climate change and global parameters. According to the report there are impressive differences between rich and poor countries in risk assessment n reduction. For example Japan and Philippines have the same exposure of tropical cyclones but for every one death in Japan, 17 people die in the Philippines. Conclusion UN states that spending money on risk assessment and reduction is the effective investment.

    Sichuan earthquake
    Sichuan earthquake
An official estimation of the total child victims in Sichuan earthquake has sparked the disbelief of many. Majority has accused the figure to be inaccurate, and could be far from the actual death toll. Though officials have repeatedly explained that the figure is genuine, many remain skeptical. Aside from the release of death toll, the government now suggests that the collapse of substantial number of school buildings might not be due to human negligence.

Investigators commented that the collapse might have been caused by other factors, however, the actual reason has yet to be confirmed. Some parents accused the authorities for trying to cover up the mistakes , judging from the fact that most collapsed infrastructures were school buildings.

China Sichuan is still undergoing recovery and restoration works from the destruction of last year’s earthquake.
