Possibly More then 38 Die in Pakistan Avalanche

A town was completely buried. It is a distant area located in the Kohistan territory. The village is located approximately 200 km or 124 miles on the north side of Islamabad.

Government authorities have mentioned that the number of dead could eventually reach 56. At this time it is reported that 38 people who perished in the avalanche have been located.

The village is so far out that it took hours for the news of the disaster to get out.

Rescue is hindered by roads that are blocked by the snow and terrible weather. Even a helicopter could not get into the area to help due to the bad weather conditions.

There has been a lot of snow the last fourteen days. This has resulted in an increased peril of avalanches throughout the north areas of Pakistan.

They will continue to search for the missing. There are thought to  be women with children possibly still trapped beneath the snow.

In an update of the avalanche that occured in the tunnels going through the Hindu Kush mountains, more people have been found dead and injured. It is being said that there was more than one avalanche that hit the  Salang Pass on Monday.

On Wednesday, over 150 bodies had been pulled from the snow. The tunnel travels through  the mountains and is a connector of the northern and southern parts of Afghanistan.

There is an additional 100 people that received injuries and required treatment. They were being flown out by helicopters to get help at hospitals and other places of safety.

At first, there were reports of 60 people having perished and 60 more that had been wounded in the avalanche. There were also over 40 vehicles covered  with snow. At this time it is estimated that there are 13 still beneath the snow.

It has now been 3 days since the avalanche happened. Rescuers continue to look for buried victims and additional vehicles that were covered in the avalanche. They are also trying to open roadways.

Avalanche Covers Part of Training School in Kashmir

At this time, there have are 17 casualties and at least 17 others that have been injured in the avalanche. The injured are in severe condition and are getting emergency treatment.

It took approximately 6 hours to find the 17 people who had perished and another 53 soldiers that were found alive in the snow.

Even with all the snow and the rain falling, the efforts of the army, police and civilians officials were quick , efficient and well done.

The avalanche occured near the ski resort, Gulmarq. It is situated about 30 miles on the north western side of Srinagar. This is close to the Line of Control, a ceasefire area controled by the military. It is a line that separates the Himalayan area of Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

At the time of the avalanche, there were approximately 400 people in attendance at the center including 30 workers from the civilian sector. Since the avalanche only occured in one area of the school, most of the people there were not affected by it.

Snow and rain falling is known to set off avalanches and landslides in Kashmir. It results in roads being blocked and cuts off access to tourist areas.. All tourist in the area ski resort were not harmed in the avalanche.

Austrian avalanche took away lives of six climbers

A group of six climbers had decided to challenge the Austrian Alps, however, they did not manage to reach their destination before being buried by avalanche. While ascending towards the a Alps, the group met with an avalanche that marked an end to their adventure. Rescue teams were unable to be deployed immediately to the scene as bad weather condition has deterred their movement. None of the climbers survived from the avalanche, and their bodies were recovered the day after the disaster.

The Austrian Alps have been experiencing avalanche in the years due to heavy snowfalls. Climbers are expected to assess the weather conditions before making such trips to prevent falling victims to sudden avalanche.

Avalanche swept killing four skiers

Outdoor activities are always enjoyable especially when it is organised together with group of friends. However, things sometimes turned nasty when natural disaster swept in. A group of six skiers, together with their guide, was on their skiing trip on the French Alps when they met with a massive avalanche.

One of the skiers who was lagging behind the group, managed to escaped from being caught in the avalanche. He immediately alerted the authority, whereby a search for survivors was carried out. The search team was able to find all the skiers, however, only two survived.

Local officials reported that the weather condition was relatively misty when the giant block of snow collasped from the Alps. It was fortunate for the two to have survived attributing to quick rescue effort.

Adverse climate has always been a major problem affecting accessibility. It is no difference for Devon, whereby the large county is struck by heavy snow fall. Much of the county transportation systems have been impaired with snow piling up, blocking railways and roads.

As snow continue to blanket the land, traffic accidents and other caused by fallen trees have been reported across the county. Police officials and transport authorities are trying out all means to clear the blockages, allowing proper traffic flow.

With efforts ongoing to clear away piled snow, commuters are expecting the county’s transportation systems to be back to service in no time.

3 die in the Highlands Avalanche

An Avalanche that took place in highlands, Scotland have claimed lives of three members.

A group of nine people were going up the hill when at 1200 GMT a strong avalanche was experienced and everyone in the group was trapped deep in the incident.

It wasn’t until three hours later that the help has arrived. Choppers skirted around the area and tried to lift the victims from the ground to a safer place.

Among the casualties three members suffered major injuries, one person was mildly injured and the rest five didn’t suffer any injuries.
The three injured casualties were immediately taken to a hospital where they were given intense care but eventually didn’t make any difference.

All the three lost their lives leaving their friends grieving about the tragedy that they have experienced together.

Avalanche in Turkey killed 10

Seventeen climbers were caught in an avalanche during their climb on Mount Zigana, in Gumushane province, northeastern Turkey.

The climbers met with a huge avalanche after reaching a height of 7,260ft (2,200m) at around 1100 (0900 GMT). At that time, the group was on the verge of crossing a deep valley, but was soon hit by a huge block of dislodged snow.

Among them, 10 have been killed, while seven others managed to survive the deadly disaster. The survivors were evacuated to a hospital after being rescued by search teams who were equipped with shovels and accompanied by sniffer dogs.

Officials blamed the avalanche of being a possible outcome of unusually warm temperatures, which caused the loosening of snow.
