    The explosion occurred at 2:30 a.m. at Xinxing mine where 528 miners were toiling, the State Administration of Work Safety said on its Web site. Rescue actions are below way, according to the statement.

    Twenty three  citizens  confirmed dead in Monday's massive landslide that buried  fraction  of a  town  in north China's Shanxi Province,  regional   governments  said Tuesday.

    Twenty three  citizens  confirmed dead in Monday’s massive landslide that buried  fraction  of a  town  in north China’s Shanxi Province,  regional   governments  said Tuesday. The landslide swept  across  six homes on Monday at the Zhangjiaju Village, in Zhangzishan Township of Zhongyang County.

    A spokesman with the county federal said the final body was recovered early Tuesday and 12 of the dead were male and 11 female.  The victims were migrant employees at a nearby coal mine and their families. They were from five households from the Qiaojia County, in the southwestern Yunnan Province, the spokesman said. More than 300 citizens had helped in the rescue operation.

    At least 10 people were killed and several others wounded in Kenya’s northern district of Turkana by suspected cattle rustlers from Toposa, southern Sudan on Saturday. According to local administrators, the raiders armed with AK-47 rifles have struck Mogila area in Lokichogio division and stole 732 animals. Turkana North District Commissioner Jack Obuo confirmed the deaths and said will ascertain the extent of the raids.

    Eight of those killed were area residents who were shot by cattle rustlers at about midday on Saturday while the other two were raiders who were shot and seriously wounded during the confrontation. Those wounded were admitted to the local hospital where two of them were treated and discharged.
