    Hurricane Ike hits Texas

    One million people was evacuated but 90 000 people decided to brave out the storm and news for those 90 000 ain’t good because Ike is having winds over 180 km/h. President George W Bush, who earlier declared a federal emergency in Texas, said the federal and state authorities would conduct the recovery effort together, bringing in generators and ensuring water and ice supplies. The rain is coming sideways. Debris is flying through the air. Things are getting ripped off buildings every second, and flying through the air. There is widespread flooding, and a hospital there is under at least 3 meters of water. The city Galveston has lost power and a number of houses are reported to be on fire. Hurricane Ike earlier caused devastation in Cuba and Haiti, where hundreds of people have died in several tropical storms over the last month.

    One million people without home in Haiti

    Series of tropical storms left one million people on Haiti without home. Strong winds and torrential rains over the past month have battered Haiti’s already fragile infrastructure and left more than 550 people dead. Season of storms is not yet over.

    Two strong earthquakes hits South Asia

    6.6 magnitude earthquake hit near city of Ternate and 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Hokkaidos coast. There is no reports of casualties so far. Japan was warned by Tsunami alert of 50cm and people where evacuated on higher grounds, kids in school went on schools roof, but warning was later canceled. A tsunami alert issued immediately after the tremor in the Moluccas islands was lifted by Indonesia’s meteorological agency when the feared wave never came. A tsunami forms when energy from an earthquake vertically jolts the seabed by several meters, displacing a huge volume of water. An earthquake off Indonesia triggered the 2004 Asian tsunami, which killed approximately 220,000 people across the Indian Ocean.

    South Iran hit by Earthquake

    6.1 magnitude Earthquake have hit South Iran. Seven people have die and at least 40 people was hurt. Most casualties were reported on the Gulf island of Qeshm where a number of buildings collapsed. Panic was in Bandar Abbas a city with over 350 000 citizens, people run to streets for the safety of the city’s open space. Oil industry facilities in Bandar Abbas were not damaged by the quake. The deadliest quake to hit Iran in recent years was in 2003, when 25,000 people died in a 6.7 quake in Bam.

    Deadly Mozambique fire

    At least 32 people have die in bush fire which destroyed homes and 16 000 hectares agricultural land. The fires, which began on Monday, have been driven across the region by strong winds. The governor, Alberto Vaquina, said the government is providing tents and other assistance to those affected.

    Cairo Homes hit by deadly rockslide

    Shanty town was hit by huge boulders and rocks which destroyed many houses, at least 24 people have die and many are trapped under this huge rocks. More than 30 people are injured but number of casualties is expected to rise. Reports said that at least eight boulders – each estimated to weigh about 70 tonnes – fell from the towering cliffs. “The power went out, we heard a loud bang like an earthquake and I thought this house had collapsed. I went out, I saw the whole mountain had collapsed.” -say witness.

    Hurricane Ike coming in Mexican Gulf

    After Gustav and Hana, Ike is coming as biggest treat so far, he is currently hurricane at category 3 and he treats Florida and USA coast. Ike devastated Cuba and Caribbean Islands with winds over 200km/h. At least 800 000 people have been evacuated in Cuba, many building were damaged beyond repair. Ike killed at least 61 people in Haiti. Ike is causing heavy rains and torrential winds which destroy everything on hes path. Ike will hit Florida on Tuesday and some residents have receive orders to evacuate. See Ike’s path.

    China hit by Earthquake again

    Death toll rise to at least 32 death people and over 467 injuries, after the 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit Sichuan province. Xinhua reported that more than 250 000 houses are damaged or destroyed and some people have been trapped in the ruins. More than 150 000 people have flee their homes. Aftershock continued with 5.6 magnitude earthquake. Communications are disrupted which makes accurate damage report difficult. This province was hit by Earthquake in 12 May which left 5 000 000 people homeless and almost 70 000 people have die.
