    Northern Ireland's Water Crisis
    Northern Ireland's Water Crisis
It is estimated that there are thousands of homes and business’s that have been without water for as long as 10 days.

One location without water is the Royal Victoria Hospital located in Belfast.

The water pipes burst because of the cold weather in Northern Ireland leaving people without running water.

There is 10 million litres of water running out of the Belfast water reservoirs due to the damaged pipes daily.

It is possible that restoring water could take as long as till the middle of next week.

Even once water is restored, it is possible that homes out in the remote areas may still be without water.

They are blaming the splitting of the pipes on a very fast change of temperatures and a quick thaw within only a few hours.

There are also complaints that the structure hasn’t been improved in years.

The Queensland is experiencing some major flooding that is forcing many from their homes.

In Theodore, there were 300 people living there that had to be flown out by a fleet of helicopters. The water had engulfed homes and other buildings there.

The flooding has hurt the sunflower and cotton crops bringing losses of hundreds of millions of dollars in crop damage.

Brisbane, the state capital has had more rain this December then they have in over 150 years.

Tasha, a cyclone, hit the coast there on Saturday bringing even more heavy rainfall with it.

The river in Theodore has risen higher then it has ever been recorded before by 20 inches. There is concern it is going to get even higher.

Even though in some areas the rain has let up a bit, there is still concern of flooding as the water washes from towns and out into the sea.

It is feared that the floods are going to cost possibly as much as $403 million in damage to area crops.

“It’s just devastating. This was going to be the crop that got a lot of farmers back on their feet after the drought,” said Mr Finlay, president of the farmers’ lobby group AgForce.

    California storms
    California storms
Rain had been falling on the southern parts of California for close to a week. Yet another major storm hit on Wednesday.

The already saturated land gave way to mud slides, cars being washed away in the flooded streets.

Right before night time, many people who live in the Highland area which is 65 miles on the east side of Los Angeles, were advised to leave their homes for their own safety.

There were about 200 homes in the area that where people were advised to leave.

3 feet of mud covered 40 homes that had been left earlier by their occupants. Two creeks near them over flowed their banks and washed mud into the houses.

Mud pushed cars, sometimes picked them up leaving the front ends in the ground, sometimes cars were buried.

South of Los Angeles there were some areas that had rivers washing through them. A tony beach town had it’s beach washed away by the rivers.

Many homes were subjected to mud and 2 people died in car accidents that were caused by the storm.

Many people had to be rescued from their homes as they saw the water rising and didn’t have time to get out.

There were some residents that leaped out windows when mud slides hit around 3am in Laguana Canyon.

    Many were screaming for help.

A trip on the Surma River from Sunamganj to Kishoreganj district too at least 37 lives. The dead include 17 children and 20 women.

The boat had over 100 passengers on it. There were many women and children inside the cabin area.

Possibly due to poor visibility in the dark, the boat collided with a cargo ship hauling sand. The accident happened about 110 miles off the northeastern side of the capital Dhaka. It was about 9:30pm on Saturday night when the boat sank.

The locals were out with torches looking for victims from the sinking boat. Many of the men who were on the boat made it to shore. They had been near the front or on the roof top of the boat.

The villagers found 37 bodies, mostly women and children. Since a lot of them had been in the cabin area, it’s possible that they didn’t get a chance to get off the boat before it sank.

There are possibly 20 more people still missing.

Boat accidents are rather common in Bangladesh. The boats try to carry too many passengers and the safety rules and not being carefully followed.

    Fire buring from pipeline explosion
    Fire buring from pipeline explosion
It is a sad day for people living in the city of San Martin and surrounding area.

In the predawn hours on Sunday, an explosion of a pipe line and fire killed 27 people. 12 of the dead are children.

The fire and explosion followed by two more small blast sent many fleeing from their homes.

Pictures of San Martin and the surrounding area looked like pictures taken in a ghost town. Or out of a horror story. Not homes that people had just recently been sleeping in.

The explosion was from the pipeline. People had been trying to steal crude oil out of the pipeline and caused the explosion plus the small ones that followed.

They apparently lost control of what they doing because of the high pressure inside the pipeline.

It isn’t uncommon for people to try and steal the crude oil. It happens every year.As much as 10 percent of the crude oil is stolen yearly. Then it is illegally transported over the border and sold. There are some companies being sued and some fined due to purchasing the stolen oil.

The fire is under  control now. It is still buring, but only the remains of the oil. There have been no more explosions.

The area hit by the turmoil is without water or electricity at this time.

There were 115 homes burnt, possibly more then 52 people were wounded and another 27 that perished.

President Felipe Calderon has conveyed his condolences to the households who lost loved ones. He has voiced  his support for the wounded and families affected by this disaster.

The president has told of how the federal government will fully support in the investigation of finding the people who did this horrible act and make sure they are brought to trial.
