    Landslide Buries Possibly 30 People In NW Colombia

    It is possible that 30 people were buried in a landslide on Monday.

    A great deal of the buried were riding a bus that had been stopped by a previous landslide that had covered the road.

    They had exited the bus and were walking across the road when another landslide came down and buried them. They were crossing the road to get on another bus.

    The landslide occurred in the Antioquia province.

    Some people had taken shelter in local houses that were swept away by the second landslide. There could be many people buried under the mud and rocks.

    Rescue operations had to be stopped for the night,

    Heavy rains had been coming down near Giraldo which is 50 miles on the north side of the city of Medellin. The landslide was a result of the heavy rains in the area.

    “It was horrible because we heard a rumbling and looked out to see people running to the houses and then they were also swallowed by the earth,” local resident Milena Ramirez.

    Dogs have been brought in to help search for victims. Some have been located but are buried so deep it will possible be a few days before they can pull them out.

    As people were sleeping, mudslides caused by torrential rainfall engulfed possibly 300 dwellings.

    It all happened on Tuesday morning as people were still in their beds. Sometime between 3 and 4 am. A 655 foot wide section of ground let loose and covered their homes. It happened in a poor area in Southwestern Mexico.

    Torrential rainfall in the Oaxaca State mountainous areas resulted in the earth burying many homes in Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec. There area approximately 9000 people that live in that town.

    Is is possible that between 500 to 600 people could be buried in the mud.

    There are police, marines and soldiers being dispatched to the area to help with rescue operations. The area hit by the landslide is about 4 hours away from the the capital of Oaxaca.

    There are rescuers being brought in by plane and a convoy of marines are on their way also.

    The area is a remote region and can be difficult to reach. There are areas where the roads have been closed by smaller landslides. Help by roadways could be hours away.

    Regions of Mexico have experienced the worst rainy season that has ever been recorded. It has caused many people to have to leave their homes due to flooding and landslides.

    The Navy was trying to help out a skiff that was over loaded with people on the Gulf of Aden. As they were trying to assist them, their boat turned over.

    It happened on Monday. The boat was over loaded with 75 Ethiopians and 10 Somalis on board. They were drifting out in the gulf when a South Korean warship saw them. The warship asked the USS Winston S. Churchill if they could help out the drifting boat.

    The Navy sent a blow up boat to their rescue. The found out that the skiff had no power so they towed with the inflated boat out of the shipping lanes in the direction of the Somali coastline.

    It was approximately 8:30am on Monday that the U.S. sailors tried to pass some supplies to the people on the skiff. They didn’t expect the Africans to all rush to one side of the boat to get the supplies and as a result, the boat flipped. All 85 passengers went into the water.

    Sailors on the Churchill and an Australian patrol plane managed to rescue 61 of the people from the water. Thirteen others have been confirmed drowned and another 8 are still missing.

    The incident is under investigation.

    12 Killed in Bus Crash Near Berlin

    On Sunday, as a bus was traveling alongĀ  A10 in Brandenburg, a car entering the roadway was in the path of the bus. The driver of the bus tried to avoid hitting the car and ran into a bridge pillar.

    The accident happened near Berlin, Germany.

    There were 12 people who died and 19 others seriously wounded. All who died were adults.

    Of the 19 wounded, one was the driver of the car.

    There were 20 others that had minor injuries.

    The bus was filled with Polish people celebrating a holiday. It was in route from Spain to Poland.

    At this time it is unknown if all who were on the bus were Polish or not.

    The German emergency people were busy trying to do all they could to help the injured and save their lives.

    Two Trains Collide In Tunisia

    There was heavy rain coming down as the commuter train was heading into the Bir El Bay Station. The engineer could not see the train that was stopped on the tracks at the station.

    The commuter train ran into the the intercity train that was sitting there and then it left it’s rails.

    It all occurred at the Bir El Bay station which is located about 19 miles on the south side of the capital, which is Tunis.

    There was one person who died from the accident and another 57 harmed.

    Most of the people who received injuries where sent home from the hospital after being treated. There were 10 of them that had to stay go get more treatment.

    In India’s middle state, Madhya Pradesh, 21 people lost their lives when a passenger train was hit by a train hauling goods. The passenger train was sitting still at the Bhaderwah train depot in Sivpuri district..

    The accident happened on Monday as rain was pouring down making visibility hard. There were 30 people or more injured and another 10 received serious injuries. At this time it is not known just what caused the accident.

    4 of the passenger trains cars were battered in the wreck.

    The oncoming train loaded with goods hit the standing passenger train with riders on board head on.

    There were 12 people that died and another 35 injured in an explosion during a military parade in the northwestern part of Iran. Four of the wounded are in critical condition.

    Most of the dead in the city of Mahabad were women and children. There were no service members killed.

    At this time, a provincial governor is blaming “counter-revolutionary groups” for the assault but no one has officially claimed responsibility.

    Rebels are very active in the area which is also home to a large Kurdish population.

    The explosion happened at around 1020 Iranian time.

    The explosive had been placed on a tree where there were many people near by.

    There were two senior military commanders of Mahabad who lost their wives in the explosion.

    The parade was marking 30 years since the war between Iran and Iraq started. The was lasted from 1980 to 1988. It was one of many parades being held across the country.

    Over a million people died in that war.

    The bridge had been being worked on getting it ready for the Commonwealth Games that will be happening there next month. It isĀ  international sporting games.

    It collapsed on Tuesday injuring possibly more the 24 people. There were 3 severely wounded. The accident has brought about questions as to how well India is prepared for these games.

    At the time of the collapse, workers were busy laying a concrete slab. The bridge is close by the Jawarhartal Nehru Stadium.

    It serves as a pathway leading from the parking lot to the stadium. The bridge was to be finished in a weeks time.

    The Commonwealth games , which are being held in India for the first time, are to start on Oct 3rd.
