Foreign soldiers deployed for missions in Afghanistan, have been the targets of Taleban’s relentless attacks. Another attack by the Taleban, involving suicide bombing, killed two Afghan civilians and wounded 20, including two US soldiers, in northern Afghanistan.

The bomb exploded in the town of Charikar, outside the offices of the Parwan provincial governor, 50km (30 miles) north of the capital, Kabul. At the time of the blast, a unit of US troops from Bagram base near Kabul was having a meeting with the provincial governor. The two injured soldiers were among those in the unit.

Uganda rebels, the Lord’s Resistance Army, in the Democratic Republic of Congo have carried out several attacks on civilians since Christmas day, amounting to approximately 400 deaths. To escape from the massacre, 20,000 people had fled to the mountains, said the head of Caritas in DR Congo to BBC news.

According to an eyewitness, the rebel force had cut off lips of five people in Faradje as a warning for them not to speak ill of the rebels. To deter and suppress the activities of the rebel force, a joint offensive has been set up by armies of Uganda, South Sudan and DR Congo. The joint offensive was thought to have established after Joseph Kony, the leader of the rebel force, had refused to sign a peace treaty in mid-December.

Uganda’s government had been into several negotiations with the LRA, hosted by the South Sudanese government. However, Mr. Kony is reluctant to come to any agreement before arrest warrants against him and his associate by the International Criminal Court are first dropped. The LRA leader and his associates has been a wanted criminal for several war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In an attempt to force the Hamas government to cease further firing into southern Israel, the Israeli air force jets have been launched to attack the Islamic University in the Gaza Strip. Witnesses reported seeing six separate air strikes on the university, targeting a laboratory building.

The Islamic university, being a significant symbol for the Hamas, was a place where many top officials graduated.

Apart from targeting the university, Israeli jets also struck a number of Hamas government offices. Palestinian medics accounted at least 300 people have been killed in the air raids.. The casualties could have been more if the university authorities had not evacuated the campus just a few days ago after receiving information of possible air strike.

Israel has since threatened to launch another ground assault by calling up 6,500 army reservists.
